Jamie Carragher Slams ‘Booing’ of Trent Alexander-Arnold

Jamie Carragher has expressed his dismay at the booing of Trent Alexander-Arnold during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

The Liverpool legend, who was speaking to Sky Sports after the game, condemned the reaction from sections of the Anfield crowd.

“I was surprised by how many were booing,” Carragher said. “In a crowd of 60,000 people, I understand there are some unhappy fans, especially given the situation surrounding Trent. But I don’t think it’s right to boo a player who has given everything for the club.”

Trent, who announced he will leave the club in the summer when his contract expires, came on as a substitute in the 67th minute, with the Reds leading 2-1. His introduction was met with loud jeers, and the tension continued as he touched the ball during the match.

Carragher, however, remained firm in his stance, arguing that no player wearing the Liverpool shirt should be booed while they are still on the pitch, trying to help the team. “I can understand some fans’ frustration, but booing one of your players is not something I can support,” he added.

Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand also reacted to the booing on social media, calling it “baffling.” Ferdinand, who played against Alexander-Arnold on numerous occasions, expressed disbelief at the negative reaction given to Trent’s contribution to Liverpool’s success over the years.

“I can’t believe LFC fans booing one of their own,” Ferdinand wrote on X. “I understand there’s frustration, but after everything he’s won with you, to boo him is baffling. It didn’t cost you a penny.”
