Liverpool fans have taken to social media to question the absence of new signing Florian Wirtz after the club named their starting lineup for today’s pre-season clash against Preston North End at Deepdale.
The Reds are returning to action for the first time since winning the Premier League, and also since the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva. It’s an emotional day, but attention quickly turned to the lineup and one name missing sparked debate.
Giorgi Mamardashvili makes his Liverpool debut in goal, with Mohamed Salah leading the side as captain. Youth stars Trey Nyoni, Rio Ngumoha, and Luca Stephenson also start. Meanwhile, new boys Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Freddie Woodman, and Armin Pecsi are named among the substitutes.
But Florian Wirtz, the headline signing from Bayer Leverkusen, is not involved, and fans were quick to notice.
