“Might Indeed Leave” – Slot Reveals Timeline For Darwin Nunez Exit

Arne Slot has admitted Darwin Nunez could leave Liverpool in the coming days, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal pushing to seal a deal.

Reports indicate that the Reds have agreed to an initial fee of £46 million, plus add-ons, for the Uruguayan striker, who has been targeted by Al-Hilal after missing out on Victor Osimhen.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace, Slot said:

“At this moment in time, Darwin [Nunez] might indeed leave, but things are not signed yet, so you need to wait maybe a few days before that is completely done. But there is indeed a chance he is going to leave.”

Nunez’s departure would leave Liverpool light in attack following Luis Diaz’s move to Bayern Munich. Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa are the only senior forwards currently available, with summer signing Florian Wirtz and youngster Rio Ngumoha also able to operate in attacking roles.

The Reds have been linked with a renewed move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak after seeing a £110m offer rejected last week, but Slot refused to discuss any potential replacement.

“As you know from me – and I think every manager works like this – you never talk about players that are not yours,” he said. “I can talk to you about Hugo [Ekitike], who we signed recently and has done really well until now.

I and we are very happy with the squad we are having and there is every reason to be happy about that because we won the league last season. OK, players left, but we have brought players in as well, and youngsters are doing good.”
