David Ornstein Drops Key Hint About Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Future

Journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Liverpool still have a slim chance of keeping Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite strong links to Real Madrid.

The Reds’ vice-captain has been widely tipped to join the Spanish giants this summer, especially with his current contract set to expire on July 1. But Ornstein says the deal is not yet complete.

“It’s been expected for a while now that he’ll join Real Madrid. But until the deal is fully finalised, that door is still slightly open,” Ornstein said on The Athletic FC podcast.

Trent played a key role in Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday, which sealed their record-equalling 20th league title. It was also their first league title won in front of fans since 1990, and the eighth major trophy for the 26-year-old at his boyhood club.

Despite the celebrations, talks about his future continue. After the final whistle, a short on-field chat between Trent and Liverpool owner John W Henry sparked more rumours. A lip-reading expert has even tried to analyse what was said during the exchange.

Reports of a move to Madrid have been circulating for weeks, but with no official confirmation, Liverpool remains hopeful. Trent dreams of winning the Ballon d’Or, and some believe he sees Real Madrid as the best place to make that happen. But the chance to stay, captain Liverpool, and build a legacy could still influence his final decision.
