Amber Whiteley Joins Republic of Ireland Coaching Staff

Amber Whiteley, assistant manager of Liverpool FC Women, has been appointed to the coaching staff of the Republic of Ireland women’s national team.

She will take on the role of assistant coach under new head coach Carla Ward, starting with Ireland’s upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Greece, Slovenia, and Türkiye. Her first game will be against Türkiye at Tallaght Stadium on February 21.

Whiteley will continue her duties with Liverpool FC Women, where she works alongside manager Matt Beard and assistant Scott Rogers.

Expressing her excitement about the new role, Whiteley said:

“I’m excited to join the Ireland women’s national team and be part of Carla’s coaching staff. It’s a great opportunity to work with a talented group of players in the UEFA Nations League. I’m thankful to Liverpool for supporting me in this role and allowing me to further my development.”

One of the players she will work with is Liverpool striker Leanne Kiernan, a key member of the Republic of Ireland squad. Kiernan and Whiteley were both involved in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Rugby Borough on Sunday, which secured the Reds’ place in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

Whiteley brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously coached at Manchester United, Sunderland, and England Women’s U18s, as well as serving as interim manager for Liverpool during the 2020-21 season.
