Anthony Gordon to Miss Carabao Cup Final After Red Card

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon will miss the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool after receiving a straight red card in the FA Cup fifth-round clash against Brighton.
Gordon was sent off in the 83rd minute for pushing Jan Paul van Hecke in the back of the head after the play had already stopped. Referee Anthony Taylor immediately showed the red card, and VAR did not overturn the decision.
As a result, he will serve a three-match suspension, ruling him out of Premier League games against West Ham and Brentford, as well as the Wembley final. Newcastle may appeal, but success is unlikely.

Adding to Newcastle’s worries, Alexander Isak was forced off in the 86th minute with an apparent injury. The Swedish striker, who had earlier scored from the penalty spot, limped off and was replaced by Callum Wilson. Isak recently missed Newcastle’s defeat to Liverpool due to a groin issue, and it is unclear if this latest setback is related.
Newcastle’s FA Cup run ended with a 2-1 extra-time defeat to Brighton, with Danny Welbeck scoring the winner in the 114th minute. The Magpies’ next game is against West Ham on March 10.
With Anthony Gordon suspended, Eddie Howe may look to Harvey Barnes as a replacement for the Carabao Cup final, but the winger has struggled with injuries this season. Meanwhile, Newcastle will hope for positive news on Isak’s condition ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
