Liverpool FC Women booked their place in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup semi-finals with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Meadow Park on Sunday.
A late goal from Sophie Roman Haug proved decisive as the Reds showcased resilience and determination under interim manager Amber Whiteley.
The breakthrough came in the 78th minute when Roman Haug’s volley struck the post and deflected into the net off Arsenal goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar. Despite Arsenal’s pressure in the second half, Liverpool’s defense held firm to secure the win.
Liverpool’s Rachael Laws, making her 100th appearance, was solid in goal, while Olivia Smith posed a constant threat on the right flank. Roman Haug and Ceri Holland came close in the first half, but Arsenal’s defense stood strong.
Arsenal pushed harder after the break, with Alessia Russo and Stephanie Catley testing Liverpool’s backline. However, Roman Haug’s persistence paid off late in the game, sealing the victory for the Reds.
Liverpool will now await the semi-final draw as they continue their quest for silverware. Their next match is a Barclays Women’s Super League clash against Manchester United at Anfield.
