Brighton 3-2 Liverpool: Seagulls come from behind to stun Reds

Brighton produced a stunning comeback to defeat Liverpool 3-2 at the AMEX Stadium, coming from behind twice before snatching a late winner through Jack Hinshelwood.
The Reds led at the break thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s fierce strike after Mahmoud Dahoud Ayari had cancelled out Conor Bradley’s early opener. But Kaoru Mitoma levelled again in the second half before Hinshelwood tapped in the decisive goal in the 85th minute.
First Half
Liverpool made a bright start and took the lead inside ten minutes. A brilliant run and cutback from Bradley allowed him to fire the visitors ahead, capping an excellent individual effort.
Brighton slowly grew into the game, and on 32 minutes they found their equaliser. Gruda lifted a pass into the path of Ayari, who slotted past Alisson with composure. There were questions about a potential offside in the build-up involving Danny Welbeck, but the goal stood after a brief check.
Just before the break, Liverpool restored their lead. Harvey Elliott played a quick free-kick to Szoboszlai, who unleashed a thunderous effort from the right edge of the box. Whether he meant it as a shot or a cross, it flew into the far corner to give the Reds a 2-1 half-time advantage.
Second Half
Liverpool had chances to extend their lead early in the second half. Mohamed Salah missed a sitter from close range after a cutback from Gakpo, and minutes later, he was denied by a brilliant save from Verbruggen.
Brighton punished those missed opportunities in the 70th minute. Alisson made a good initial save from Welbeck, but the rebound fell to Mitoma, who fired home to make it 2-2.
The game looked set for a draw until the 85th minute, when substitute Hinshelwood arrived at the back post to finish off a low cross from O’Riley. There was a tight offside check, but the goal stood — Quansah was playing O’Riley on.
Liverpool pushed for an equaliser in the eight minutes of added time, but Brighton held firm. Mitoma had a chance to make it 4-2 after a Liverpool error, but he blazed wide.
In the end, Brighton’s spirited performance and clinical finishing earned them a memorable win, while Liverpool were left to rue their missed chances.
