Crystal Palace 2-1 Liverpool: Nketiah’s Late Goal Ends Champions’ Perfect Start

Liverpool fell to a late 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
The home side opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Ismaila Sarr reacted quickest to a loose ball from a corner to finish from close range. Alisson Becker was then called into action with a series of important saves to keep the Reds in the contest, including denying Jean-Philippe Mateta on two occasions, while the Palace forward also struck the post before half-time.

Arne Slot’s men pushed for an equaliser after the interval. Cody Gakpo fired over soon after coming on at the break, while Florian Wirtz saw his close-range effort kept out by Dean Henderson. Alexander Isak went close twice as Liverpool continued to apply pressure.
Federico Chiesa came off the bench to level in the 87th minute, slotting in after a deflected cross fell kindly to him. However, Palace found a winner deep into stoppage time when substitute Eddie Nketiah struck from inside the box to seal the points for the hosts.
