Olivia Smith Wins Liverpool Women’s Player of the Month for January

Olivia Smith has been named Liverpool FC Women’s Standard Chartered Player of the Month for January, marking the third time she has claimed the award in her debut season.

The Canadian forward has been a standout performer, starting all three matches in January and making a decisive impact in two victories. Her stunning solo goal in the 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion was later nominated for the Barclays Women’s Super League Goal of the Month.

She also found the net against Leicester City and assisted Leanne Kiernan’s goal in Liverpool’s FA Cup triumph over West Ham United.

After receiving the award at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, Smith expressed her gratitude and credited her teammates for their support.

“It’s amazing. It’s an honour to receive these awards and obviously, it wouldn’t be possible without the team,” she told Liverpoolfc.com. “Overall, the month was amazing and I think it’s just a great start [to] the year.”

Having joined the Reds in the summer from Sporting CP, Smith admitted it took time to settle into her new surroundings but now feels right at home.

“Definitely at first it was a bit difficult, just a new environment, new people,” she said. “But as the year goes on, everyone is so inviting and homey that I think I’ve settled in pretty well.”

Smith has now scored five goals in 16 appearances for Liverpool and remains focused on contributing to the team’s success for the remainder of the season.

“I think just contributing to the team as much as possible and obviously just getting wins throughout the year,” she said when asked about her personal goals.
