How Liverpool Fans Can Sign Digital Condolence Book For Diogo Jota

Supporters of Liverpool Football Club woke to heartbreaking news this morning as Spanish authorities confirmed the tragic deaths of forward Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, following a fatal car accident in northern Spain.

The Guardia Civil, Spain’s national police force, issued a statement confirming the circumstances of the incident. According to their preliminary findings, the crash occurred at approximately 00:30 local time (23:30 BST) in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora province.

“The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking,” a spokesperson said. “The car caught on fire and the two occupants were killed.”

When asked to confirm the victims’ identities, the Guardia Civil responded: “The player and his brother, André Silva.”

In a swift response to the devastating news, Liverpool FC announced a series of measures to allow fans to grieve collectively and honour the Portuguese international. Flags at Anfield have been lowered to half-mast, and the club has opened both physical and digital books of condolence.

  • Thursday, July 3 – 5:00pm to 9:00pm

A limited number of books will be available on the first evening, with stewards on hand to support those who wish to participate.

For supporters unable to visit Anfield in person, the club has launched a digital condolence book via its official website. This allows fans worldwide to share personal messages, memories, and tributes to both Jota and his brother.

In addition, all club stores, museums, and stadium tours will remain closed until Monday, July 7, as a mark of respect. Liverpool FC has also extended wellbeing resources to its staff, recognising the emotional impact of the news across the wider club community.
