Lewis Koumas Joins Birmingham City On Loan

Liverpool have confirmed that Lewis Koumas will spend the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Birmingham City.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who impressed last season at Stoke City, heads back to the Championship as Birmingham look to strengthen following their return to the division. The Blues, backed by new owners and fresh optimism, have made a solid start with four points from their opening two fixtures.
Koumas, however, was not involved in Liverpool’s main pre-season group this summer. He featured only twice in friendlies, coming off the bench in the 4-1 win against Athletic Bilbao and again in the 3-1 victory over Preston North End, but was not part of the Asia tour squad.

Speaking to Birmingham’s website, Koumas said:
“I’m really excited about it [the move] and looking forward to getting going. There was lots of interest, but just how big of a club this is, how passionate the fans are, the project that I’ve heard about and after speaking to the gaffer, there was no other way about it – I was coming to Birmingham.
“I want to be wanted by a manager, and I know he knows a lot about me. It’s always about developing and wanting to get better, but I’m also here to come and prove what I can do, score goals and get assists.”**
Koumas signed a long-term contract at Liverpool last summer before heading to Stoke, where he made an impression in the Championship. He has made one senior appearance for Liverpool to date, scoring in the FA Cup win over Southampton in February 2024.
Koumas’ switch takes the tally of Liverpool loanees for the summer to seven, with Owen Beck (Derby County), Harvey Davies (Crawley Town), Vitezslav Jaros (Ajax), Isaac Mabaya (Wigan Athletic) and Luca Stephenson (Dundee United) all heading out earlier in the window.
