Liverpool Confirm Andy Robertson as New Vice-Captain

Liverpool have appointed long-serving left-back Andy Robertson as the club’s new vice-captain. The Scotland international takes over the role from Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid at the end of last season.

Robertson will support skipper Virgil van Dijk and lead the team whenever the Dutch defender is unavailable. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal at Anfield, manager Arne Slot explained the decision:

“It’s Robbo. He has played here so many years, won the league twice. Last season it was Virgil, Trent, Robbo and Mo (Salah). With Trent leaving, there were many logical reasons for the choice,” Slot said.

“He is a very good player, plays many games, knows what it takes, and understands the culture of the club and dressing room. Apart from his quality on the pitch, he plays a big role in the culture we have here.”

Robertson, 31, has made 344 appearances for Liverpool since signing from Hull City in 2017 for £10million. During his time at Anfield, he has won two Premier League titles as well as the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, Carabao Cup twice, and the UEFA Super Cup.

Despite his new leadership role, Robertson has not started in the Premier League so far this season, with Arne Slot preferring new signing Milos Kerkez, who joined from Bournemouth for £40million in June.
