Liverpool Legend Joey Jones Dies Aged 70

Joey Jones, the former Liverpool and Wrexham full-back, has died at the age of 70.

Jones became a fan favourite at both clubs thanks to his fearless defending and total commitment on the pitch. He made history at Liverpool in 1977 when he became the first Welshman to win the European Cup, helping Bob Paisley’s side beat Borussia Monchengladbach in Rome.

Signed from Wrexham in 1975, Jones spent three years at Anfield, also winning the First Division title and UEFA Cup, before returning to his boyhood club in a then-record deal.

Liverpool legend tweeted John Aldridge wrote on X: “More sad news folks, Joey Jones passed away last night. What a lovely man and an inspirational full back who gave his heart and soul in a red shirt and for all the clubs he played for!
