Liverpool Reports £57m Loss for 2023/24 Season

Liverpool Football Club has released its financial results for the 2023-24 season, reporting a record-breaking £308 million in commercial revenue but an overall loss of £57 million.
According to the club’s official website, media revenue fell by £38 million to £204 million due to Liverpool’s participation in the Europa League instead of the Champions League. However, matchday revenue increased by £22 million to £102 million, helped by the opening of the new Anfield Road Stand and more games played at Anfield.
Commercial revenue saw a significant £36 million increase, driven by new sponsorship deals with UPS, Google Pixel, Peloton, and Orion Innovation, as well as contract extensions with Kodansha and Carlsberg. Retail sales hit record levels, supported by a new store in Dublin and over one million downloads of the LFC Store app.
On social media, Liverpool became the most-engaged Premier League club, generating 1.5 billion fan interactions and gaining 37 million new followers. The club’s WhatsApp channel was its fastest-growing platform, and Brand Finance named LFC the strongest brand in the Premier League.
On the pitch, Liverpool strengthened its squad with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch, while 11 players extended their contracts. The women’s team also welcomed new additions, including Natasha Flint and Jenna Clark, and renewed deals for key players like Niamh Fahey and Yana Daniels.
Off the pitch, the LFC Foundation supported over 127,000 people, contributing £13 million to the local community and generating £90 million in social value, including £56 million in health benefits. The club’s sustainability programme, The Red Way, received multiple awards for its efforts.
Despite the financial loss, Liverpool’s chief financial officer, Jenny Beacham, emphasized the club’s commitment to financial stability and growth. “Operating a financially sustainable club remains our priority,” she said. “Our global appeal and strong commercial performance provide a solid foundation for continued success, both on and off the pitch.”
