Liverpool will pay a special tribute to Diogo Jota on Monday evening with a full programme on LFCTV dedicated to remembering the late striker.
Jota, 28, died in a car accident last Thursday in Spain along with his younger brother, Andre Silva. The two were travelling back to England from Portugal ahead of Liverpool’s pre-season when their car crashed. Reports say it was due to a tyre burst, and both died at the scene.
The funeral took place on Saturday in their hometown of Gondomar, Portugal. Many Liverpool players and staff, including new manager Arne Slot, were there to say goodbye.
Since the tragic news, LFCTV has been showing a black and white photo of Jota with his fingers shaped like a heart. The image also carries the club’s official message which reads:
“Diogo Jota 1996–2025.
Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
The 28-year-old passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain, along with his brother, Andre.
Liverpool FC requests privacy for the family, friends, teammates and staff during this difficult time.
We will continue to give them our full support.”
On Monday night, LFCTV will return with a special show called “Remembering Diogo: Our Number 20”. The one-hour programme starts at 6 pm UK time and will feature stories, memories and tributes to the Portuguese forward, who became a fan favourite at Anfield.
Right after, at 7 pm, the channel will show “Diogo Jota: All The Goals”, a 30-minute programme with all of his 65 Liverpool goals.
Later in the evening, at 9.45 pm, they will show highlights from the Merseyside Derby against Everton, the game where Jota scored his final goal for the Reds. His goal gave Liverpool a 1-0 win and helped their title chase.
The tribute show will be repeated at 10 pm.
