Luis Diaz Hails Mo Salah as a Mentor and Inspiration at Liverpool

Luis Diaz has opened up about the profound impact Mohamed Salah has had on his development since joining Liverpool in January 2022.
The Colombian winger, who arrived from Porto, faced the challenge of breaking into a star-studded forward line that included Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino, a trio that defined Jurgen Klopp’s era at Anfield.
Rather than feeling intimidated, Diaz embraced the opportunity to learn from his experienced teammates. In a recent interview, he revealed how Salah, in particular, played a key role in helping him adapt to life at Liverpool.
“When I first arrived, the front three was Bobby [Firmino], Sadio [Mane], and Mo [Salah],” Diaz told Sports Illustrated. “These are players who have won everything, yet they were always willing to teach me. They’d say, ‘You can improve here,’ or ‘Try taking your shot like this.’ Those small details made a huge difference, and I’ve carried those lessons onto the pitch.”

Diaz also highlighted Salah’s relentless mentality and consistency as qualities that inspire him. “Mo is a machine. He has an incredible mentality. Whenever he has the ball, you know something will happen, either an assist or a goal. And he always believes he’ll score even more in the next game. That’s the kind of mindset that pushes you to grow as a player.”
Beyond Salah, Diaz credited global superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar as players who have shaped his style of play. “Messi has always been my idol. I grew up watching him and trying to imitate his moves. Neymar, too he’s an incredible player who I’ve learned so much from. These players, along with Mo, have been huge inspirations for me.”
Now thriving under manager Arne Slot, Diaz has become a key figure in Liverpool’s attack. His ability to combine flair, speed, and finishing has made him a fan favorite at Anfield. Reflecting on his journey, Diaz emphasized the importance of learning from the best.
“Playing alongside players like Mo, Bobby, and Sadio has been a privilege. They’ve not only helped me improve but also showed me what it takes to succeed at the highest level. I’m grateful for their guidance and hope to keep growing as a player.”
As Liverpool continue their pursuit of silverware this season, Diaz’s development stands as a testament to the club’s culture of mentorship and teamwork. With Salah’s influence and his own determination, Diaz is poised to shine even brighter in the years to come.
