Mo Salah reacts after Tottenham beat Man United to win Europa League

Liverpool forward Mo Salah was among those watching as Tottenham Hotspur beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Spurs lifted their first major trophy since 2008, thanks to Brennan Johnson’s goal just before half-time. It was a huge win for Ange Postecoglou’s side in Bilbao.

After the match, Salah went on X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Postecoglou and Spurs. The Egyptian star remembered the Spurs boss had promised to win something in his second season.

“He did say he’d win in his second season. Congratulations!” Salah wrote.

Postecoglou had been mocked for that statement in the past, with pundit Paul Merson even saying he had a better chance of winning Strictly Come Dancing than lifting a trophy with Spurs. But the Australian manager has now proved his critics wrong.

Interestingly, earlier this season, Postecoglou mentioned Salah during a tough run for Spurs. He said even a top player like Salah would struggle in his team’s situation at the time.

“Mo is a world-class player,” Postecoglou said. “But if you put him in our team now, I’m not sure he’ll have that same level of performance because of the situation we’re in.”

Spurs may have struggled during the league campaign, but they finished the season strong. They’ll now join Liverpool in the Champions League next season.
