“I Back Myself Against Any Winger” – Djed Spence Sends Shot to Mo Salah

Tottenham full-back Djed Spence has boldly declared that he “backs himself against any winger,” including Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final decider at Anfield on Thursday.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the £20m-rated defender expressed his self-confidence, stating that he is ready to face any winger in the world, regardless of their form or quality.

“Salah is a great player, a top player. He’s in good form also. You’ve just got to nullify what he’s good at, really. He’s good at a lot of things, I just gotta stay focused on it and hopefully come out on top,” Spence said. “I back myself against any winger, Salah or whoever. I back myself against anyone.”

The 24-year-old has already shown his mettle by keeping Salah quiet during the first leg of the semi-final, where Spurs triumphed 1-0. However, the task becomes even more daunting for Spence with the memory of Salah’s record-breaking performance against Tottenham in December still fresh in his mind. The 32-year-old winger broke two records in that match, continuing his reputation as one of the most dangerous attackers in world football.

Despite this, Spence remains unfazed, as he exuded confidence heading into this week’s clash at Anfield. “We’re always ready. We’ve got to be confident and we gotta be ready to fight. Hopefully, we make it to the final,” he added.

Spence, who has impressed playing out of position at left-back for Spurs, is determined to continue his rise in the Premier League, drawing confidence from each game. After Tottenham’s recent 2-0 win over Brentford, he feels the team is heading in the right direction. “We’re buzzing. I’m happy to get the three points and time to look forward,” Spence said, looking to build momentum ahead of the crucial semi-final.

As Tottenham heads to Merseyside with a narrow advantage, Spence’s words are a statement of intent. He’s ready to take on Salah once again and help Spurs secure a place in the final, all while keeping his eye on his own personal ambitions, including a potential England call-up.
