Paul Scholes slams Liverpool and Van Dijk after Fulham defeat

Liverpool’s 26-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League is over after a shock 3-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The Reds were torn apart in a wild 14-minute spell in the first half, with the Londoners scoring three quick goals to seal a famous win.
The warning signs were already there against Everton, where Beto bullied Konaté. This time, the entire defensive unit collapsed. Robertson was caught out of position repeatedly, Konaté struggled with Fulham’s physicality, and Curtis Jones, often used in a deeper role, failed to provide any defensive stability in midfield.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk’s post-match comments drew heavy criticism, especially from Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, who didn’t hold back during his appearance on Premier League Productions.

“I think he has to look at himself,” Scholes said. “He didn’t really blame himself, but I think he’s showing a little bit of arrogance. It’s almost like he’s saying, ‘You’re not allowed to touch me.’”
“He got caught out for the goal, and Fulham striker Muniz absolutely bullied him today. He and Konaté were all over the place. We’ve called Van Dijk one of the best Premier League defenders ever for years, but this slump starts with the captain. He needs to take responsibility.”
In response, Liverpool manager Arne Slot defended Van Dijk and said the blame shouldn’t fall solely on his shoulders.
“I mainly give credit to other players as well,” Slot said. “Van Dijk is not the first player to find it difficult to defend against Beto. And the one that played here today, you have to give credit to him also.”
“I still see a lot of things that Virgil does really well. But if you play 50 to 60 games a season, there will be moments, even for him, where you could have done better.”
Liverpool remains 11 points clear at the top, thanks to Arsenal’s slip-up at Everton.
