Reports: Barcelona will move for Luis Diaz if renewal talks fail

Barcelona are reportedly back in the hunt for Luis Diaz and will be keeping a close eye on his contract situation at Liverpool over the coming weeks.

According to Fichajes, the Spanish giants remain admirers of the Colombian forward and are waiting to see if the Reds move forward with talks over a new deal.

Diaz, who joined Liverpool in January 2022 from FC Porto, has enjoyed a solid campaign, netting 17 goals in all competitions as the club reclaimed the Premier League title. But questions remain over his long-term future at Anfield.

The 27-year-old is under contract until 2027, but speculation around his future has intensified, especially after comments made by his father last year expressing a desire to see his son play in La Liga. Those links to Spain have never fully gone away.

While Liverpool have considered offering Diaz a new deal, the situation remains fluid. Talks are expected to take place this summer, but it’s understood the club are still weighing up their plans for the left-wing position, with interest in signing a new wide attacker.

The club’s stance could open the door to offers, with Barcelona among the clubs keeping close tabs on developments. Any deal, though, would not come cheap, with reports suggesting it could take €80–90 million to prise Diaz away from Merseyside.

Barcelona’s financial struggles are well known, and it remains to be seen whether they could meet such a valuation. But should Diaz fail to agree fresh terms with Liverpool, the Catalan club could look to reignite their interest and make a move to bolster Hansi Flick’s attack.

Diaz has scored 37 goals in 118 appearances for the Reds since arriving at Anfield and remains a key figure for club and country.
