“What They Have Got Is Good Enough” – Steve Nicol Backs LFC’s January Transfer Decision

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has backed Arne Slot’s decision not to sign any new players in the January transfer window. While some fans wanted reinforcements to boost the squad for the title race, Nicol believes Liverpool already have enough quality to compete until the end of the season.
Liverpool are currently leading the Premier League, six points ahead of Arsenal after 23 matches. The team is also still competing in every other competition, making fans hopeful of winning multiple trophies. However, there are concerns about squad depth, especially with memories of last season when Liverpool faded away towards the end. Under Jurgen Klopp, the Reds were in contention for four trophies by April but ended up only winning the Carabao Cup after injuries and fatigue affected their performance.

Speaking on ESPN FC’s Extra Time, Nicol dismissed the idea that Liverpool needed new signings, saying the squad is strong enough. “I think what they have got is good enough to see it through [the season], so I didn’t think they would make a new signing. So no, what they have got right now should take them through.”
Nicol’s comments suggest confidence in Slot’s squad, which has performed well despite injuries to key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah at different points in the season. Slot has also made it clear that he is happy with the team, and that was a major reason why Liverpool did not make any signings in January.
Whether this decision will pay off remains to be seen. Liverpool fans will hope the squad stays fit and maintains its momentum to avoid another disappointing end to the season. If Nicol is right, the Reds may not need new signings to bring silverware back to Anfield.
