Rio Ngumoha Added to Liverpool’s UCL Squad

Liverpool’s rising star, Rio Ngumoha, has been included in the club’s senior squad for the knockout stages of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League.
The 16-year-old winger, who made the switch from Chelsea to Anfield in September, was previously ineligible for the group stage due to registration restrictions. However, with Liverpool making changes ahead of the next phase, Ngumoha now has the chance to showcase his talent on Europe’s biggest stage
Born in Newham, London, on August 29, 2008, Ngumoha’s football journey began at Chelsea’s youth academy, where he quickly stood out as a player with immense potential. He was part of the Chelsea U17 team that clinched the Premier League Cup, showcasing his talent and catching the eye of top clubs.
His inclusion comes after midfielder Tom Hill’s permanent move to Harrogate Town, freeing up a space in the squad for the young winger. The English joins fellow U21 talents like Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott, Jarell Quansah, and James McConnell, who are also eligible for selection in the knockout stages.
Ngumoha’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. On January 11, 2025, he made history by becoming the youngest player to start a competitive match for Liverpool, at just 16 years and 135 days old. He was named in the starting XI for Liverpool’s FA Cup clash against Accrington Stanley, which ended in a comfortable 4-0 victory. Although he was substituted in the 71st minute for Jayden Danns, Ngumoha left a lasting impression with his confidence, creativity, and fearless approach on the ball.
A left-winger with blistering pace, sharp vision, and the ability to take on defenders, Ngumoha has drawn comparisons to some of Liverpool’s brightest young talents.
Now, with his registration confirmed for the Champions League knockout stages, Ngumoha has the chance to showcase his talent on one of football’s grandest stages.
