Reports: Liverpool Target Sunderland’s 17-Year-Old Sensation Trey Ogunsuyi

Sunderland have gained recognition for nurturing some of the finest young prospects in English football. They are already weighing up offers for Chris Rigg, with the young talent expected to attract significant interest from leading Premier League clubs.

The Black Cats also boast goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, who has caught the eye of several Premier League teams, with Tottenham being the latest to express their interest. Now, the Championship side faces uncertainty over the future of emerging star Trey Ogunsuyi, following the forward’s exceptional performances in their youth teams.

Ogunsuyi has netted 15 goals in 17 appearances at the youth level, showcasing his prowess as a 17-year-old standout. According to reports, Liverpool have begun monitoring the prolific teenager, who is becoming a top target for the Reds. Sunderland, however, are determined to chart a clear path for his growth rather than risk losing him prematurely.

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has addressed the situation surrounding Ogunsuyi. Speaking to The Daily Mirror, he emphasized his desire to retain the player and support his development within the club.

“Yes, I believe so. He’s still very young, and players like Riggy, Tommy, and Jobe serve as excellent role models within our setup. When you move to a club with a highly competitive squad, finding the right environment for development is crucial. I can’t say for certain, as social media and speculation can often exaggerate things. However, if we provide the right conditions and the player, his family, and his agents approach this rationally, we can guide him along a successful pathway.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, is actively bolstering its youth ranks. The summer acquisition of Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea highlighted the club’s focus on nurturing young talent. The club targets promising players, demonstrating a strong commitment to youth development.

Bringing in an exciting attacking talent like the 17-year-old Ogunsuyi could significantly enhance Liverpool’s academy teams. However, Sunderland remain resolute in their efforts to retain him and offer a clear path to future success within their setup.
