Virgil van Dijk Praises Alexander Isak Ahead of Carabao Cup Final

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has heaped praise on Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and the Magpies’ midfield strength as the Reds prepare to face them in the Carabao Cup final next month.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Van Dijk acknowledged the challenge Newcastle will pose, particularly highlighting Isak’s red-hot form and the physicality of their midfield.
“They are very, very strong in the midfield with the power in terms of physicality,” Van Dijk said. “And their manager is a great manager. For them to be twice now in the final in the last three years is obviously a big credit to how they set up and the work they do.”
The Dutch defender also singled out Newcastle’s star striker, Alexander Isak, as a key threat. “They have a striker that’s in red-hot form at the moment. So, when the time is there, we have to be ready.”

Van Dijk is no stranger to Isak’s abilities. The Swedish international scored against Liverpool in their 2-1 defeat at St. James’ Park earlier this season, showcasing his pace, skill, and clinical finishing.
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has previously urged the Reds to sign Isak, and it’s easy to see why. The 25-year-old has been in sensational form this season, causing problems for even the most organized defenses.
While Isak poses a significant threat, Van Dijk himself is in outstanding form. The Liverpool captain was instrumental in the Reds’ 4-0 Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham, earning a heroes’ reception from the Anfield crowd when he was substituted late in the game.
His leadership and defensive prowess will be crucial as Liverpool aim to lift the Carabao Cup for the second time in three years.
The upcoming final at Wembley promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Van Dijk and Isak set to renew their rivalry. The Dutch defender’s ability to neutralize Isak’s threat could be decisive in determining the outcome of the match.
With the final set for next month, both teams will be eager to claim silverware. For Liverpool, it’s an opportunity to continue their strong season under Arne Slot, while Newcastle will be desperate to end their long wait for a major trophy.
