Where Does Mohamed Salah Rank Among Liverpool’s All-Time Top Scorers?

Mohamed Salah has firmly cemented his legacy as one of Liverpool’s modern-day legends during his time at Anfield.

Since arriving from Serie A side Roma in 2017, the Egyptian international has been an attacking dynamo for the Reds, helping them secure every major domestic trophy and the 2019 UEFA Champions League title.

Despite Erling Haaland surpassing Salah’s record for the most goals in a single 38-game Premier League season during the 2022/23 campaign, the 32-year-old continues to etch his name into Liverpool’s history. His contract, expiring in 2025, leaves fans optimistic that his journey at the club will extend further.

Strictly Liverpool examines Salah’s remarkable goal-scoring feats and compares his achievements to some of Liverpool’s all-time greats.

Liverpool’s All-Time Top Scorers

Salah surpassed club legend Robbie Fowler on the all-time goal-scoring list and matched the legendary Steven Gerrard’s tally after scoring against Brentford on May 6, 2023. This goal made him only the eighth player in Liverpool’s history to score over 100 goals at Anfield, and he became the first to score in nine consecutive home matches.

Salah soon went on to surpass Gerrard’s record, reaching 194 goals after scoring twice against Everton in October 2023. In December 2023, he joined an exclusive club by becoming only the fifth player in Liverpool’s history to reach 200 goals in all competitions, having netted the equaliser against Crystal Palace.

The 2017/18 Premier League Golden Boot winner remains the only active player in Liverpool’s top 10 goal scorers, with several of the other players on the list having retired over the past two decades. His goals-per-game ratio of 0.60 is also impressive, ranking just behind Gordon Hodgson among the club’s top scorers.

Liverpool’s Record Goal Scorer

If Salah maintains his current form, it would take him roughly 200 more appearances to surpass Ian Rush’s all-time record of 346 goals. Rush, who played for Liverpool between 1980 and 1996, briefly spent a season with Juventus in Italy, later returning to Liverpool, where his style suited English football better.

The Wales international was known for his partnership with Kenny Dalglish in attack, helping Liverpool secure five league titles and two European Cups, while also finishing as the club’s top scorer on eight occasions.

Salah’s Goal Count for Liverpool

To date, Salah has netted 229 goals in 372 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions. His best goal-scoring return came during his debut season in 2017/18 when he was part of a formidable attacking trio with Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino, leading Liverpool to the 2018 Champions League final.
