Al Hilal Reach Agreement with Liverpool for Nunez

Al Hilal have fully agreed a deal with Liverpool for the transfer of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. The verbal agreement between the clubs includes a €53 million upfront fee, with add-ons pushing the total package higher.

As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano also, the club-to-club agreement is 100% complete, with discussions now progressing directly with Nunez to secure personal terms.

The 25-year-old striker joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer of 2022, arriving with high expectations and a big price tag. Though he brought passion, pace, and flashes of brilliance, Nunez never truly found consistency in front of goal.

He finishes his Anfield spell with a mixed legacy; full of energy and promise, but often short on composure in key moments.

Under Arne Slot, who is now entering his second season at the helm, Liverpool are shaping a squad fit for a new tactical identity. This summer, the Reds have already brought in Florian Wirtz, one of Europe’s brightest attacking midfielders, and Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt to bolster the forward line.

Despite these incoming names and the attacking firepower still in the squad, Liverpool’s decision to sell Nunez is still striking given the loss of Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away, and the confirmed departure of Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich.

These exits have left Liverpool’s frontline in flux, yet the club is showing confidence in the next phase of its rebuild.

The willingness to move Nunez on now reflects a broader strategic decision rather than a reactive one.

For Al Hilal, capturing Darwin Nunez would be a major milestone in their aggressive pursuit of top-tier European talent. The club has already brought in high-profile names across recent windows and views Nunez as a forward entering his peak, capable of becoming a franchise player for their long-term sporting project.
