Arsène Wenger explains why Mo Salah is his “favourite” player.

Mo Salah is making a strong claim for football’s biggest individual awards this year.

Liverpool’s forward has been in top form throughout the 2024/25 season. His performances have put him in the conversation for the game’s highest honors.

Virgil van Dijk has been in this position before, earning recognition for the PFA awards and the Ballon d’Or. But this time, Salah looks like Liverpool’s best hope. He has been delivering consistently and remains one of the most decisive players in the squad.

On Wednesday, he added to his tally with a goal and an assist in the Merseyside derby against Everton. That took his total to 14 assists for the season, bringing him closer to Thierry Henry’s Premier League record of 20. Henry set that mark in the 2002/03 season under Arsene Wenger, and now his former manager has given Salah high praise.

Speaking to GOAL, Wenger called Mo Salah his favourite player in world football at the moment. “The favourite player at the moment I think is a guy like Salah,” said FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development. “Because despite the longevity, his career is still at the top.”

Liverpool fans may not be too concerned about individual awards, especially with uncertainty over Salah’s future at the club. But having one of the world’s top players at Anfield for so long is something to appreciate.
