Cody Gakpo Misses Training Ahead of PSG Game

Liverpool’s preparations for their Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain have hit a snag, with Cody Gakpo missing from Tuesday’s open training session.

The Dutch forward, who recently returned from an injury sustained in the Merseyside derby, could now be a doubt for Wednesday’s first-leg tie at the Parc des Princes.

Gakpo’s absence comes at a tricky time for the Reds, who are already dealing with a string of injuries. Conor Bradley, Joe Gomez, and Tyler Morton are all sidelined, leaving manager Arne Slot with limited options. Bradley is out for weeks with a hamstring issue, while Gomez and Morton are recovering from surgeries. To make matters worse, young defender Amara Nallo is suspended after being sent off in his debut against PSV Eindhoven in December.

Liverpool’s recent form has been impressive, with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United last week extending their lead at the top of the Premier League. However, their shock FA Cup exit to Plymouth Argyle means they’ve had a full week to prepare for the PSG clash.

Slot will face the media in Paris later today, where he’s expected to provide updates on Gakpo’s fitness and the overall squad situation. The press conference, scheduled for 6.30 pm UK time, will also feature one of Liverpool’s players.

Adding to the tension, four Liverpool stars – Ibrahima Konaté, Alexis Mac Allister, Andy Robertson, and Harvey Elliott – are walking a disciplinary tightrope. A yellow card for any of them in Paris would rule them out of the second leg at Anfield on March 11.
