Gerrard Reflects on Positive Al-Ettifaq Stint After Departure

Steven Gerrard has described his spell in charge of Al-Ettifaq as a “positive experience” after mutually agreeing to part ways with the Saudi Pro League club. The former Liverpool captain and England international leaves his position with the team sitting 12th in the league after 17 matches.
Despite the challenges, Gerrard remains grateful for his time in Saudi Arabia, highlighting the opportunity to work in a new environment and embrace a different culture.
“I want to express my gratitude to the club, the players, the fans, and everyone involved for the opportunity and the support during my time here,” Gerrard said in his farewell message. “From the first day, I was warmly welcomed, and I have enjoyed the chance to work in a new country. Overall, I have learned a lot, and it has been a positive experience for me and my family.”
However, football is unpredictable, and Gerrard acknowledges that results did not always go as planned. Despite this, he departs with respect for the club and optimism for its future. “I leave with great respect for the club and the country. I have no doubt that the work being done will bring success in the future, and I wish the team the very best for the rest of the season,” he added.
Club Appreciates Gerrard’s Impact
Gerrard took over as Al-Ettifaq’s head coach in the summer of 2023 and had signed a contract extension until 2027. However, both parties agreed that a mutual separation was in their best interests.
Club president Samer Al Mishal expressed gratitude for Gerrard’s contributions and acknowledged the impact he had on the team. “First and foremost, we extend our sincere gratitude to Steven for his dedication and hard work during his time with the club,” Al Mishal said.
He emphasized that Gerrard had left a lasting legacy. “He changed the club for the better, and that will never be forgotten. This decision, made with mutual respect and in agreement, is in the best interest of both Steven and the club as we move forward.”
