Liverpool U18s stun Chelsea U18s in comeback

Liverpool U18s pulled off a stunning comeback to secure a 3-2 victory over Chelsea and book their place in the semi-finals of the U18 Premier League Cup. The young Reds looked down and out after conceding twice but produced a remarkable late rally to turn the game around at Cobham on Saturday.

The first half was cagey, with Liverpool struggling to create clear chances. Chelsea, on the other hand, took their opportunity in the 29th minute when Ryan Kavuma-McQueen dribbled through the left channel and slotted a low finish into the far corner to give the hosts the lead.

Liverpool had their moments, with Joe Bradshaw’s curling free-kick forcing a good save from Chelsea goalkeeper Hudson Sands, but they went into the break trailing 1-0.

The second half started with Liverpool pushing forward, but Chelsea doubled their advantage in the 58th minute. Kavuma-McQueen was once again involved, delivering a cross that led to a close-range effort from Ibrahim Rabbaj. Though Reds goalkeeper Kornel Misciur made an initial save, Genesis Antwi was on hand to smash in the rebound, making it 2-0.

With time running out, Liverpool refused to give up. In the 83rd minute, Trey Nyoni capitalized on a defensive error to fire the ball into the net, giving his team a glimmer of hope.

Three minutes later, Rio Ngumoha showed his brilliance by weaving through the Chelsea defence and slotting a precise shot inside the right post to make it 2-2.

The young Reds were not done yet. In the first minute of added time, Josh Sonni-Lambie delivered a perfect cross, and Alvin Ayman stretched to prod the ball home, completing a dramatic turnaround and sealing the 3-2 win for Liverpool.
