Jurgen Klopp saddened by Liverpool parade incident

Jurgen Klopp has spoken publicly following the tragic incident at Liverpool’s Premier League title parade on Monday, which left more than 50 people injured after a car drove into a crowd on Water Street.

The former Liverpool manager was in London on Tuesday evening for the League Managers Association Awards, where he was inducted into the LMA Hall of Fame 1000 Club. During his speech, Klopp addressed the incident directly:

“Yesterday it just showed the two faces of life. The most beautiful face for a long, long time,  the parade was incredible, it was incredible. From one second to the other, everything changed because we then learned again there are more serious things in the world than football. Obviously thoughts and prayers go to the, as far as I know now, the injured and to the families of course as well.

“It should have been one of the greatest days in the history of the city after a long, long time because we didn’t have opportunity to do that last time, but as I said it showed the bad face of life as well.

“I at least don’t know anything about exactly what happened — how and why it happened — but we all know what happened and that is very, very bad.”

King Charles III, who is currently in Canada with Queen Camilla, also reacted to the tragedy:

“It is truly devastating to see that what should have been a joyous celebration for so many could end in such distressing circumstances.”

“At this heartbreaking time for the people of Liverpool, I know that the strength of community spirit for which your city is renowned will be a comfort and support to those in need.”
