Jurgen Klopp set for emotional return to Liverpool in May

Jurgen Klopp is preparing to return to Liverpool this May, almost a year after stepping down as the club’s manager.

The legendary German coach left the Reds in the summer, just one year before his contract expired, citing that he was “running out of energy.”

Following his exit, Klopp took a brief break from management before being appointed as the global sports director of Red Bull’s network of football clubs, a role that certainly raised some eyebrows, particularly among his former clubs.

Despite his departure, Klopp maintains strong ties to Liverpool, especially through his role as an honorary ambassador of the LFC Foundation. Now, the 57-year-old is set to return to the city to speak at a gala dinner at Liverpool Cathedral on Friday, 23 May, according to The Athletic.

Klopp is also expected to visit Anfield for Liverpool’s final Premier League match of the season against Crystal Palace, two days after the dinner.

Earlier this year, Klopp had hinted that he planned to return to Liverpool at the end of the season, with the possibility of celebrating the Reds’ title victory if it was secured by then.

“I think I will be there for the last game,” Klopp has previously said. “I didn’t want to go earlier to be honest because I didn’t want to jinx it all the time. If I’m in the stadium for the first time and they lose, ‘oh f**k sake’. So I go there when it’s decided.”
