Reports: Liverpool closing in on Jeremie Frimpong after positive talks

Liverpool are reportedly close to finalizing personal terms with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, paving the way for club-level talks to follow.

According to Kicker, the 24-year-old Dutch right-back of Ghanaian descent’s €40 million release clause is not standing in the way, and the Reds are prepared to meet the fee, possibly through installments.

The Merseysiders are pushing ahead with summer plans after Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed he will leave at the end of the season. Finding a replacement for the club legend is a top priority. While Conor Bradley was briefly considered as a successor, doubts about his readiness and durability have prompted Liverpool to look elsewhere.

Frimpong has emerged as the leading option to fill that void. Known more for his attacking threat than defensive solidity, the Dutchman’s style could fit well with manager Arne Slot’s tactics.

Talks with Frimpong are already underway, with reports suggesting he’s keen on joining Liverpool. The deal is expected to include a five-year contract running until 2030, signaling a long-term commitment.

Whether Frimpong will prove to be the perfect replacement for Alexander-Arnold remains to be seen, especially regarding his defensive capabilities in the Premier League. But offensively, he looks like a very promising signing for the Reds.
