The competition has expanded to 36 teams, with clubs split into four pots of nine for the draw. Each side is given eight opponents, facing two from each pot, with four matches at home and four away. All clubs are then ranked together in a single league phase table.

The top eight qualify directly for the round of 16, while the teams finishing between ninth and 24th contest a playoff to secure the remaining spots in the knockout stage.
