Liverpool Women Secure 5-0 Victory Over West Ham to Reach FA Cup Fifth Round

Liverpool advanced to the fifth round of the 2025 Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a commanding 5-0 win over West Ham United on Wednesday night. The rescheduled round-four clash, played at Chigwell Construction Stadium, saw the Reds assert control early and never let up.

An own goal gave Liverpool a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the match. Gemma Evans’ in-swinging corner was flicked on by Yana Daniels, and Camila Saez inadvertently sent the ball into her own net. West Ham had little time to recover, and Liverpool doubled their lead in the 18th minute through a brilliant counterattack. Olivia Smith launched the break, spotting Leanne Kiernan’s run, who expertly rounded goalkeeper Megan Walsh to finish into an empty net.

The Hammers’ challenge became even more daunting when Amber Tysiak was shown a red card for a reckless challenge on Taylor Hinds just before halftime. Despite the numerical disadvantage, West Ham managed to block a point-blank shot from Kiernan, but Liverpool were firmly in control as they headed into the break.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with Liverpool adding a third goal in the 48th minute. Another well-executed corner from Marie Höbinger was directed into the net by Grace Fisk with her thigh. The Reds weren’t finished yet, and the fourth goal came just after the hour mark when substitute Lucy Parry was played through by Sophie Roman Haug and kept her composure to score her first senior goal.

Liverpool’s dominance was capped off 20 minutes from time as January signing Sam Kerr, who had been a constant threat, powered home a header from a Julia Bartel corner to complete the 5-0 scoreline.

The victory sets up a trip to Women’s National League North side Rugby Borough in the next round, scheduled for Sunday, February 9. Matt Beard’s side will now focus on their upcoming Barclays Women’s Super League encounter with West Ham on Sunday at St Helens Stadium.

The Reds will look to maintain their momentum in the WSL as they meet West Ham again this Sunday at 2pm GMT.
