Liverpool Player Ratings vs Newcastle: Szoboszlai Steals the Show

Fresh from their weekend triumph over Manchester City, Liverpool seized the opportunity to tighten their grip on the title race, taking full advantage of yet another Arsenal slip-up. The Gunners faltered against Nottingham Forest earlier in the evening, failing to secure all three points.
Despite Arne Slot’s absence from the touchline, Liverpool delivered when it mattered. Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister found the net, ensuring a crucial victory that further cements their status as champions-elect.
Here’s how we rated the Liverpool players:
Alisson – 7/10
A quiet night for the Brazilian, but he was alert when called upon. Made a crucial save to deny Wilson and commanded his area well.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8/10
This was a strong bounce-back showing after a poor defensive performance last time out. His passing range was on full display, and he showed real effort defensively, looking determined to contribute at both ends.
Ibrahima Konate – 7/10
Covered well when Alexander-Arnold needed help and defended solidly overall. A reliable presence despite the lack of serious threats from Newcastle.
Virgil van Dijk – 7/10
Did nothing wrong all game but earned a 7 due to the limited workload. Newcastle offered little threat, and Van Dijk organized the defense with ease.
Kostas Tsimikas – 7/10
Played the full 90 minutes and deserved to. Defensively strong, though Newcastle’s lack of threat from the right helped. Offensively, he delivered some lovely set pieces and supported the attack well.
Ryan Gravenberch – 7/10
Composed in midfield, showcasing his trademark turns and ball control. Defensively comfortable, though Newcastle’s blunt attack made his job easier.
Alexis Mac Allister – 8/10
A standout performance. Defensively strong, putting in crucial challenges, and reliable in possession. Scored a fantastic goal to make it 2-0, sealing the win.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 9/10 (Man of the Match)
Liverpool’s best player on the night. Scored the opener with a cool finish and was a constant creative force. Two excellent performances in a row for the Hungarian, who’s shining in the second half of the season.
Mohamed Salah – 7/10
Not his most explosive game, but he still provided an assist (his seventh of the season) and was a constant threat. Lewis Hall defended well against him, but Salah almost won a penalty early on.
Luis Diaz – 7/10
Set up the first goal with a fantastic run and assist. Caused Newcastle’s defense endless problems with his energy and dribbling.
Diogo Jota – 6/10
Linked played well but had little impact in front of the goal—a quiet night by his standards.
Substitutes:
- Cody Gakpo (for Jota, 62’) – 6/10
Added energy and almost scored with a spectacular bicycle kick. - Jarell Quansah (for Alexander-Arnold, 76’) – 6/10
Assured at right-back, with nothing getting past him. - Wataru Endo (for Gravenberch, 76’) – 6/10
Provided stability in midfield to see out the game. - Curtis Jones (for Mac Allister, 86’) – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact. - Darwin Nunez (for Diaz, 86’) – N/A
Brought on late to add more attacking threat.
Manager:
Arne Slot (from the stands) – 8/10
Despite his touchline ban, his team selection and tactics were spot-on. Liverpool looked well-drilled and dominant, further solidifying their title credentials.
