David Ornstein drops major trio contract update

David Ornstein has shared the latest updates regarding the contract situations of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.
The contracts for this duo, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold, are set to expire at the end of the season. Liverpool have held discussions with each player regarding contract extensions. However, the trio has been free to negotiate pre-contract agreements with overseas sides since January 1.
Alexander-Arnold has not publicly discussed his future, but reports suggest he is nearing a deal with Real Madrid, which could see him leave Liverpool.
As for Van Dijk, talks with Liverpool have been progressing well. The Reds’ captain spoke after the recent 3-2 loss to Fulham, noting that discussions about his future were moving forward, though no final decision has been made.
He mentioned his affection for the club and the fans but declined to specify whether the progress was related to a contract extension or a possible move away.
“I love the club, I love the fans, and they were there for us again, and we wanted to reward them. But I want them to be there on Sunday again [at home to West Ham United] and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us.”

Ornstein later confirmed that, according to his sources, Van Dijk is expected to stay at Liverpool. He stated in an interview with NBC Sports:
“Virgil van Dijk has spoken in the last 24 hours and said there has been progress in talks over a new contract for him. It’s been my understanding throughout that Liverpool are confident and optimistic about renewing Van Dijk, and now it’s a case of when rather than if he will put pen to paper, barring any last-minute hitches. The talks and negotiations have been positive and cordial.”
Meanwhile, Salah remains Liverpool’s main attacking threat, maintaining outstanding form with 54 goal contributions in just 45 appearances this season. Ornstein confirmed that, like Van Dijk, Salah’s contract renewal is also seen as a matter of “when” rather than “if.”
“There’s been a similar situation with Mohamed Salah,” Ornstein added. “Liverpool have been confident throughout that they will retain his services, and as with Van Dijk, it’s now more a case of when that’s going to happen. That will be really good news for them.”
