Paul Scholes Picks His Best Liverpool Player Ever

Paul Scholes picks his best Liverpool player ever, and the Manchester United legend has gone for none other than Steven Gerrard.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Scholes was asked to choose the best player from the seven top clubs he faced during his career. For Liverpool, he went straight for Gerrard.
The best Liverpool player? Steven Gerrard,” he said without hesitation.
The former United midfielder and Gerrard were rivals on the pitch for years, and also played together for England. And despite many other legends playing for Liverpool, including Ian Rush, Kenny Dalglish, Luis Suarez, and Mohamed Salah, Scholes believes Gerrard stands above them all.
In a separate interview on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, Scholes spoke about how different they were as players.
I can’t answer that. Gerrard. Gerrard’s a great player… We’re different, we’re very different. He’s an athlete. I think he’s more of a match-winner. But, he was playing in a team where he probably had to be. I was more part of a team. He was more individual I think.

Steve Gerrard made 710 appearances for Liverpool and scored 186 goals. He captained the club through some tough years and led them to the famous 2005 Champions League comeback in Istanbul, as well as FA Cups, League Cups, and a UEFA Cup.
Even though he never won the Premier League, Gerrard’s loyalty, leadership, and big-game performances made him a fan favourite and one of the most respected midfielders in world football.
Scholes also praised Gerrard’s ability to carry Liverpool during a difficult period.
“I wouldn’t be able to do what he did at Liverpool. Whether he could’ve done it at United, I don’t know. I don’t see why not. But I couldn’t have done what he did at Liverpool, no.”
Interestingly, Gerrard and Scholes faced each other 21 times in their careers. Scholes won 12 of those games, while Gerrard won eight and scored five goals in those meetings, four more than Scholes managed.
While many fans may argue over who Liverpool’s greatest ever player is, Scholes’ pick and his honest words show just how much respect Gerrard earned even from one of his biggest rivals.
