Reports: Kaide Gordon Set to Join Portsmouth on Loan

Liverpool academy prospect Kaide Gordon is set to complete a loan move to Championship side Portsmouth on deadline day.

Reports from The Athletic reveal that the 20-year-old winger will join Portsmouth before the winter transfer window closes. Liverpool has been actively seeking the right loan destination for Gordon to continue his development, and they believe he will thrive at the Championship club.

Gordon was part of Derby County’s youth system before Liverpool paid £3.4 million, including add-ons, to bring him to Anfield. Since his arrival in 2021, the young talent has steadily progressed, although he has not yet secured a regular spot in the senior team. He has already made seven appearances for Liverpool’s first team, marking his name in the club’s history by becoming their second youngest goalscorer when he netted against Shrewsbury Town in the 2022 FA Cup at just 17 years old.

However, injuries have disrupted Gordon’s rise, and his career has faced setbacks. He only made three appearances for Liverpool in the 2023/24 season before joining Norwich City on loan at the start of this campaign.

The move to Norwich, unfortunately, did not work out as hoped. Gordon started just one Championship match out of ten appearances, leading Liverpool to recall him last month due to a lack of playing time.

While he trained with Liverpool’s Under-21s, the club worked on finding an appropriate loan move for Gordon’s continued development. Portsmouth emerged as a potential suitor, and negotiations have been ongoing for some time.

Portsmouth, currently fighting to maintain their place in the Championship, are hopeful that Kaide Gordon can make a significant impact on their season.
