Liverpool 2-2 Arsenal: Reds Throw Away Lead in Draw

Premier League champions Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Arsenal in an action-packed encounter at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds dominated the first half, racing to a two-goal lead in 87 seconds. Cody Gakpo put Liverpool ahead with a header, followed by Luis Diaz, who tapped in to double their advantage.
However, Arsenal responded after the break, with Gabriel Martinelli pulling one back shortly after the restart, setting up a tense second half.
Liverpool were off to a flying start, taking control of the match with two quick goals. In the 12th minute, Cody Gakpo opened the scoring, heading home from close range after a well-delivered cross from Andy Robertson.
Less than a minute and a half later, the Reds doubled their lead, with Mohamed Salah’s clever pass finding Luis Diaz, who slotted it in with ease. Arsenal were rattled, struggling to respond to Liverpool’s fast-paced attack.

The first half ended with Liverpool in full control and Arsenal failing to find any rhythm in the face of the relentless pressure.
Arsenal came out stronger after the break, showing more resolve and intensity. Just minutes into the second half, Gabriel Martinelli made an impact, heading in a goal from close range to bring the visitors back into the game.
The goal seemed to give Arsenal renewed energy, as they began to dominate possession and apply pressure on Liverpool’s defense.
The introduction of Trent Alexander-Arnold was met with boos from the Anfield faithful, unhappy with his impending summer departure, and the atmosphere shifted. Arsenal’s Mikel Merino was sent off for a second yellow card, but Liverpool couldn’t find a winner despite the man advantage.
In the dying moments, Robertson thought he had scored the winner, but his goal was ruled out for a foul by Ibrahima Konate. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
