Dominic Corness Joins The New Saints After 17 Years At Liverpool

Dominic Corness has completed a permanent move to Welsh champions The New Saints, bringing an end to his long journey at Liverpool.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined Liverpool at just five years old and rose through the ranks to become captain of the U21s. He will officially join The New Saints on July 1 after his contract with the Reds expires.

Corness was offered a new deal by Liverpool, but chose to seek regular senior football elsewhere. Because he is under 23, the Welsh side will pay a compensation fee to Liverpool as part of the deal.

During his time at Anfield, Corness was a regular for the U21s and featured in friendlies for Jürgen Klopp’s senior side during the 2022 Dubai training camp. He also spent time on loan at Yverdon Sport in Switzerland and Gillingham in League Two.

After sealing his move, Corness said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed for The New Saints. It’s a fantastic club with a great history of success, and I’m really proud to be joining. From the moment I heard about the opportunity, I knew it was the right move for me. I can’t wait to meet the lads, get started with training, and do everything I can to help the team achieve its goals this season.”

The New Saints’ head coach Craig Harrison added:

“Dom is a fantastic talent and a very accomplished footballer. He’s technically sound, has an excellent touch and balance, and he’s confident playing forward passes—exactly the kind of profile we look for.”

“He’s another great addition to the squad, having come through a top setup at Liverpool. He spent last season on loan at Gillingham and also gained experience abroad in Switzerland, so he’s already had a taste of senior football in different environments.”

Chairman Mike Harris also praised the signing, saying:
