Joe Gomez forced off the pitch with apparent muscle injury

Joe Gomez was forced off during the first half of Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham, joining Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley on the list of injury concerns for the Reds. Gomez, who had started eight consecutive games, was replaced by Jarell Quansah after suffering a hamstring injury in a routine challenge by the touchline.
Liverpool had already gone 3-0 up with goals from Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah, but Gomez’s injury cast a shadow over the result. The extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but Liverpool will hope that the early substitution prevents a serious setback.
With both Konate and Bradley already sidelined with knee and hamstring injuries respectively, Gomez’s withdrawal could leave Liverpool with a depleted defense. Konate and Bradley are expected to return to fitness soon, though manager Arne Slot emphasized the importance of easing them back into action.
Before the West Ham match, Slot commented on the situation, saying:
“They will not be back for West Ham, but then there’s a week in between, so let’s see how close they are then,” Slot said. “It’s difficult for me to tell you at this moment, because they don’t train with the group yet. But hopefully in the upcoming days they come closer to that situation.”
He continued, “Ibou [Konate] has been out for five, six weeks maybe, Conor just as long, and also for them, they are in competition with players who are completely fit and are doing really well. I have to make the right judgment the moment they are back with the team.”
Gomez has been a regular starter this season, playing 16 times, with his only absence coming in the season opener against Ipswich due to transfer speculation.
