Liverpool 2-1 Wolves: Reds Restore 7-Point Lead After Nervy Win

Liverpool made two changes from their midweek draw with Everton, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota replacing Conor Bradley and the injured Cody Gakpo.

Wolves, meanwhile, handed a Premier League debut to Marshall Munetsi, who made an immediate impact off the bench.

The Reds held on to a narrow 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in a thrilling Premier League encounter at Anfield. Goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah in the first half proved decisive, despite a late strike from Wolves’ Matheus Cunha that set up a nervy finish.

Liverpool started brightly, with Diaz opening the scoring in the 15th minute. A swift counter-attack saw Diogo Jota release Diaz on the left, and the Colombian forward calmly slotted past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa after a deflection fell kindly into his path. The hosts doubled their lead just before halftime when Salah converted a penalty after Diaz was fouled by Sa following a defensive error by Emmanuel Agbadou.

Wolves struggled to contain Liverpool’s attacking trio of Salah, Diaz, and Jota, with the Reds creating several chances. Salah had a goal ruled out for offside, while Jota and Dominik Szoboszlai came close to adding to the scoreline.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Wolves side, with Cunha pulling one back in the 65th minute. The Brazilian forward curled a superb effort into the far corner after being given too much space outside the box. Wolves continued to press, with substitute Marshall Munetsi forcing a brilliant save from Alisson, while Liverpool’s defense looked increasingly shaky.

Despite Wolves’ efforts, Liverpool managed to hold on, with Conor Bradley and Wataru Endo making crucial interventions in the dying minutes. The visitors felt aggrieved by several refereeing decisions, including a disallowed penalty claim and a controversial foul on Cunha, but Liverpool’s resilience saw them through.
