Reports: Liverpool Open Talks with Florian Wirtz’s Representatives

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with representatives of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz as the Reds step up their interest in the highly-rated German attacker.

According to Christian Falk, both Liverpool and Manchester City are in contact with Wirtz’s camp, and meetings are already taking place to try to secure a deal. However, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich remain confident they are leading the race.

Wirtz, 22, has been outstanding under Xabi Alonso, playing a key role in Leverkusen’s historic domestic double, which included an unbeaten Bundesliga campaign. The attacking midfielder has featured in 44 matches this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists.

His performances have made him one of Europe’s most sought-after talents, and with two years left on his contract, a summer move now looks very likely.

Liverpool reportedly sees Wirtz as a long-term attacking solution, with new boss Arne Slot expected to reshape the frontline in the coming transfer windows. The German international’s versatility across the front line and as a creative midfielder makes him a valuable option, especially as Mohamed Salah, now 33, approaches the latter stages of his career.

Manchester City also view him as a potential successor to Kevin De Bruyne. Liverpool have already held face-to-face talks with Wirtz’s camp in England, while City are believed to have spoken to his father, Hans, who also acts as his agent.
