Liverpool U21s 2-4 Leicester U21s: Reds Fall In Premier League 2 Opener

Liverpool U21s started their Premier League 2 campaign with a 4-2 defeat away to Leicester City on Monday night.
New head coach Rob Page took charge of his first competitive game, with Jayden Danns and Michael Laffey finding the net for the young Reds. But doubles from Michael Golding and Nathaniel Opoku proved decisive for the Foxes.
Before kick-off, both sides observed a moment of silence in memory of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.
Leicester struck early, with Golding opening the scoring inside nine minutes after Armin Pecsi had saved well from Opoku. The hosts doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark when Opoku punished a misplaced pass.
Danns gave Liverpool hope shortly after the restart, finishing smartly into the top corner, but two quick goals from Opoku and Golding put the game beyond reach. Laffey’s excellent late strike reduced the margin, though it came too late to change the outcome.
Liverpool will now look to bounce back when they host Burnley at the Kirkby Academy next Monday at 2 pm BST.
