They were more clinical than us’ – Taylor Hinds Reflects on Man City Defeat

Liverpool FC Women’s vice-captain, Taylor Hinds, expressed her frustrations following the team’s 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday.

Despite creating several chances, the Reds were unable to capitalize, while City’s clinical finishing proved decisive at Joie Stadium.

Khadija Shaw’s first-half brace set the tone for the hosts, with Jill Roord and Gracie Prior adding second-half goals to seal the victory. Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Hinds acknowledged the disappointment but emphasized the team’s unity and determination to improve.

“There are a lot of frustrations, really,” Hinds said. “City were clinical, and if we had put away some of our chances, the scoreline might have been different. But that’s how it is. They were more clinical than us, and that’s why they won.”

When asked if a lack of belief contributed to the defeat, Hinds was quick to dismiss the suggestion.

“I wouldn’t say a lack of belief. We go into every game believing in ourselves, and that’s a massive positive about this team. No matter who we play, we always back ourselves. City were just better and more clinical today, and that’s how they won.”

Hinds also highlighted the team’s attacking intent, noting that the chances created were no surprise. “We worked on that in training. That’s how we play—we try to attack. Towards the end of the game, things opened up a bit, and we brought on some players with different options. We were always going to get chances; we just need to be more clinical in taking them.”

Reflecting on the post-match huddle, Hinds revealed that the team remains united and focused on improvement.

“We talked about how the international break has come at a good time for us. We’re a big family, and there are a lot of positives to take from this game, as well as things we need to work on. We’ll regroup and come back stronger after the break.”
