Harvey Elliott Shares Heartfelt Message After Leaving Liverpool

Harvey Elliott has sent an emotional message to Liverpool and its fans following his deadline-day move to Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old boyhood Red has been part of the club’s journey for six years, from watching Liverpool lose the 2018 Champions League final in Kyiv to lifting the trophy in Madrid a year later. Despite growing up supporting the club and previously saying he had no plans to leave, Elliott was in tears at Anfield on the final day of the 2024/25 season as his exit drew nearer.

Aston Villa won the race for Elliott’s signature, fending off interest from RB Leipzig, while the midfielder also turned down approaches from West Ham and his former club Fulham earlier in the summer.

Following the move, the 22-year-old took to Instagram to reflect on his time with the Reds, sharing a message full of gratitude and emotion:

“When I joined Liverpool in 2019, it was a dream come true for me and my family. As a young child, I travelled the world supporting the team as a fan, and words will never be able to explain the feeling I had when I pulled on that famous red shirt for the first time as a player.

Liverpool midfielder James McConnell has joined Ajax on loan for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, following the signing of a new long-term contract with the club.

The 20-year-old will gain further senior experience in the Eredivisie, reuniting with former Reds coach John Heitinga, now in charge at Ajax, and goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros, who is also on loan in Amsterdam.

McConnell joined Liverpool’s Academy at U15 level from Sunderland and has since progressed through the ranks, making 13 senior appearances. He made his competitive debut in October 2023 when Jurgen Klopp brought him on in a Europa League win over Toulouse at Anfield.

During his breakthrough season, McConnell featured in nine games, registering an FA Cup assist against Norwich City and earning a Carabao Cup winner’s medal as a substitute in the 2024 final against Chelsea. He made four appearances under Arne Slot last term, including his first Champions League outing at PSV Eindhoven in January.

Ajax sporting director Alex Kroes praised the England youth international, saying:

“James has a real winner’s mentality and will bring the necessary extra power to the squad. With him, we are adding a player who, as a defensive holding midfielder, can contribute valuable qualities to the team.

He has been part of Liverpool’s first-team set-up for several seasons and therefore knows exactly what is required at the very highest level. He has great potential and will be given the opportunity here to continue his development. We are very pleased that he has chosen Ajax.”

Ajax, runners-up in the Eredivisie last season, have started the 2025-26 campaign strongly, picking up seven points from their opening three matches and preparing for the Champions League group phase.

Andy Lonergan Appointed Liverpool FC Women Goalkeeping Coach

Liverpool FC Women have confirmed Andy Lonergan as the team’s new goalkeeping coach.

The former shot-stopper enjoyed a long playing career with more than 400 appearances across clubs including Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United.

Lonergan is no stranger to Liverpool, having been part of Jurgen Klopp’s men’s squad during the 2019-20 campaign when the Reds lifted the Premier League title. He also collected medals in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup that season.

After leaving Anfield, the 41-year-old spent three years at Everton before taking up a player-coach role with Wigan Athletic last year.

He now takes charge of the goalkeeping department at Liverpool FC Women and will work closely with Rachael Laws, Rafaela Borggrafe and Faye Kirby throughout the new campaign.

  • Tyler Morton joins Lyon from Liverpool for £15 million

Tyler Morton joins Lyon from Liverpool for £15 million

Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton has sealed a permanent transfer to Lyon for a fee of £15 million.

The 22-year-old finalised the move on Tuesday, ending a 15-year association with the Reds after progressing through the club’s academy ranks.

Morton made 14 senior appearances for Liverpool after debuting in a Carabao Cup tie at Norwich City in September 2021. He featured in the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup under Jurgen Klopp during his breakout season, but struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team option.

Loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City followed, with the midfielder earning praise for his maturity and passing range in the Championship. He returned to Liverpool last summer and made five appearances in 2024–25 as Arne Slot’s side lifted the Premier League title.

He also played a key role in England’s U21 squad earlier this summer, helping Lee Carsley’s side win the European Championship in Slovakia.

The move comes amid Lyon’s successful appeal against relegation due to financial issues. The French club were reinstated to the top flight last month and have moved quickly to bolster its squad.

Morton’s departure follows the £35 million sale of fellow academy graduate Jarrell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, as Liverpool continues to navigate the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. The club has spent over £250 million on new signings this summer following last season’s title win.

7 Liverpool Debutants Under Klopp Sold Under Arne Slot

Liverpool are quietly strengthening their squad for the 2025/26 season following a successful first campaign under Slot, which ended in Premier League glory. As part of a mini rebuild, several players have left, while key additions like Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez have arrived.

Interestingly, many of those making way were once handed their Liverpool debuts by Jürgen Klopp, signaling the gradual close of an era.

Here are seven academy graduates who were handed their Liverpool debuts by Klopp, but have since been sold under Arne Slot.

    1. Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t just break into Liverpool’s first team; he became the face of their modern success story. Debuting in October 2016, he went on to make over 350 appearances, winning everything from the Champions League to two Premier League titles.

However, the end of his Liverpool story came under Slot. Though he played a pivotal role in the Dutchman’s first season, Alexander-Arnold announced he would leave after his contract expired. Real Madrid swooped in early, paying €10 million to land him ahead of the Club World Cup.

His departure was met with mixed emotions. Klopp, ever the defender of his players, publicly criticised fans who booed the right-back’s decision. “This isn’t us,” he said. “Don’t forget what he’s done for this club.”

    2. Jarell Quansah

Quansah made his Liverpool bow in August 2023 following a promising loan at Bristol Rovers. He quickly earned the trust of Klopp, featuring 32 times in the German’s final season.

Yet under Slot, Quansah’s minutes dwindled. Despite the departure of Joel Matip, the new boss preferred the more experienced duo of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. Eventually, Quansah was sold to Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool, however, didn’t completely close the door. A €60 million release clause active from 2027 hints at the club’s continued belief in his long-term potential.

    3. Caoimhin Kelleher

Kelleher patiently served as Alisson’s deputy for years, earning plaudits as arguably the best reserve keeper in the Premier League. His performances in cup competitions, especially Liverpool’s League Cup triumphs, made him a cult favourite.

An injury to Alisson during Slot’s first campaign gave Kelleher a chance to shine in the Premier League. And shine he did.

But with Giorgi Mamardashvili arriving from Valencia, Liverpool faced a choice. Rather than stifle Kelleher’s ambitions, they let him join Brentford, where he could finally be a No.1.

    4. Nathaniel Phillips

Signed for the youth team in 2016, Phillips’ name is etched in the memories of Liverpool fans for one reason: 2020-21. Amid an injury crisis, he stepped up and helped secure Champions League qualification, even pulling off a memorable Cruyff turn at the San Siro.

But that magical run was never followed by consistent minutes. By the time Slot arrived Phillips had already spent time out on multiple loans. His sixth at Derby County was his last before a permanent move to West Brom.

His Liverpool career may not have been filled with glory, but he certainly left with pride.

    5. Sepp van den Berg

Though not an academy product in the traditional sense, Van den Berg arrived as a teenage prospect from PEC Zwolle in 2019 and developed within Liverpool’s youth system.

Klopp gave him early opportunities, but it was away from Anfield at Preston, Schalke, and Mainz that he matured into a solid defender. Slot cashed in early, selling him to Brentford for a reported £25 million. A tidy profit for a player who made just a handful of senior appearances in red.

    6. Bobby Clark

Bobby Clark’s standout Liverpool moment came at Wembley. As part of Klopp’s youthful lineup in the 2024 League Cup final, he helped outplay a far more expensive Chelsea squad en route to a dramatic extra-time win.

That spark wasn’t enough to secure a place in Slot’s plans. The 20-year-old linked up with former assistant Pep Lijnders at Red Bull Salzburg, where he’s continued his development. With Lijnders now gone, Clark could be on the move again. Southampton are rumoured to be preparing a £10 million bid.

    7. Harvey Blair

Harvey Blair’s first-team journey was brief, a 55-minute outing in the League Cup back in 2021. But those who watched the academy closely were well aware of his potential at U18 level.

Still, Blair wasn’t part of the new vision at Anfield. Slot moved him on to Portsmouth in the Championship, where he’s looking to carve out a career of his own. For Liverpool, it was a low-risk, clean break.

  • Giovanni van Bronckhorst joins Liverpool coaching staff

Giovanni van Bronckhorst joins Liverpool coaching staff

Liverpool have officially confirmed Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their new assistant coach, with Xavi Valero returning to take charge of the club’s goalkeeping department ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Van Bronckhorst joins Arne Slot’s staff, subject to visa approval, as a replacement for John Heitinga, who left to become Ajax’s head coach.

The former Netherlands international brings plenty of experience, both as a player and manager, having led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2017 and guided Rangers to the Europa League final in 2022.

It’s Van Bronckhorst’s first return to the Premier League since his time as a player at Arsenal. The 50-year-old has also managed in China with Guangzhou R&F and, most recently, had a short spell in Turkey with Besiktas, leaving the club in late 2024. He has been working as a UEFA analyst since the start of this year.

Xavi Valero also returns to Anfield as head of first-team goalkeeper coaching after spending seven years with West Ham United.

The Spaniard previously worked at Liverpool under Rafael Benitez and followed him to clubs like Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli and Real Madrid before a stint in China and then the Premier League.

Valero’s return marks a full change in Liverpool’s goalkeeping setup, with both Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel departing the club.

Otte leaves after one season at Anfield, having helped the team win the Premier League in his short spell working under Slot. The former USA national team coach joined Liverpool last summer from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Taffarel, a World Cup winner with Brazil, also moves on after three and a half years at the AXA Training Centre. He worked with the first team under both Jürgen Klopp and Arne Slot, helping the club to success in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Premier League.

Former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has joined Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s new number two.

Lijnders left Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, ending nearly a decade of service at the club. The 42-year-old briefly took charge of RB Salzburg at the start of last season but was dismissed in December.

He now makes a surprise return to the Premier League,  this time on the blue side of Manchester.

Lijnders is joined at City by James French, Liverpool’s former first-team opposition analyst, who also worked under Klopp.

City’s director of football Hugo Viana said:

“We are all delighted that Pepijn and James have joined our senior coaching set-up.

Their talent, application, work ethic and all-round commitment are totally aligned with the values that underpin how Pep wants football to be played.”

The duo link up with Guardiola’s staff ahead of City’s Club World Cup campaign, which begins on June 18 against Wydad Casablanca.

  • Jurgen Klopp saddened by Liverpool parade incident

Jurgen Klopp saddened by Liverpool parade incident

Jurgen Klopp has spoken publicly following the tragic incident at Liverpool’s Premier League title parade on Monday, which left more than 50 people injured after a car drove into a crowd on Water Street.

The former Liverpool manager was in London on Tuesday evening for the League Managers Association Awards, where he was inducted into the LMA Hall of Fame 1000 Club. During his speech, Klopp addressed the incident directly:

“Yesterday it just showed the two faces of life. The most beautiful face for a long, long time,  the parade was incredible, it was incredible. From one second to the other, everything changed because we then learned again there are more serious things in the world than football. Obviously thoughts and prayers go to the, as far as I know now, the injured and to the families of course as well.

Jurgen Klopp saddened by Liverpool parade incident

“It should have been one of the greatest days in the history of the city after a long, long time because we didn’t have opportunity to do that last time, but as I said it showed the bad face of life as well.

“I at least don’t know anything about exactly what happened — how and why it happened — but we all know what happened and that is very, very bad.”

King Charles III, who is currently in Canada with Queen Camilla, also reacted to the tragedy:

“It is truly devastating to see that what should have been a joyous celebration for so many could end in such distressing circumstances.”

“At this heartbreaking time for the people of Liverpool, I know that the strength of community spirit for which your city is renowned will be a comfort and support to those in need.”

  • Jurgen Klopp ‘disappointed’ by Liverpool fans booing Trent Alexander-Arnold

Jurgen Klopp ‘disappointed’ by Liverpool fans booing Trent Alexander-Arnold

A disappointed JUrgen Klopp had to turn off his television after hearing Liverpool fans boo Trent Alexander-Arnold during the 2–2 home draw against Arsenal earlier this month.

Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid this summer after spending two decades at the club. Born and raised in Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold joined the club’s academy at age six and made his first-team debut under Klopp.

The 26-year-old right-back, widely regarded as one of the best in the world and also capable of playing in midfield, has made 353 appearances for the Reds. During Klopp’s nine-year spell, he helped Liverpool win the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Club World Cup.

“I was watching the game when he came on and heard the boos,” Klopp said on Friday at a charity event for the LFC Foundation. “I’m older now, so I thought it might be my hearing—I turned up the volume. It took me another 10 seconds to realize it was real, and then I turned the TV off. Honestly, I couldn’t have been more disappointed in that moment. That’s not who we are, not at all.”

“I’m not saying you can’t be disappointed or upset. I’m saying: don’t forget. This club doesn’t forget,” he said. “He gave everything every single day for this badge. After 20 years, he decided he wanted a new challenge. If anyone should be upset about that, it’s the owners, and they’re not.”

“This boy, 18 years old, scored a free-kick in Hoffenheim that helped us qualify for the Champions League. Against Barcelona, he set up that cheeky goal for 4-0—a game and result that may never happen again.”

Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions last month with four games to spare. They will lift the trophy this Sunday after their final home game against Crystal Palace.

  • Arne Slot reveals Klopp message after Premier League title win

Arne Slot reveals Klopp message after Premier League title win

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says Jurgen Klopp was among the many people who sent him a message after his side won the Premier League title last Sunday.

Slot’s men thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield to seal Liverpool’s 20th league title , a historic moment that the Dutchman described as “one of the best days” of his life.

Speaking ahead of their game against Chelsea, Slot shared how emotional the day was for both him and the fans. “A lot of messages came in, and even though they were similar, they all came from the heart,” he said.

“I tried to reply to everyone. Sunday was amazing. It was probably one of the best days in the lives of Liverpool fans, and for me as well. Seeing what it meant to them and the players was special to be part of.”

When asked who the most famous person was that congratulated him, Slot replied: “I assume it was Jürgen. He said ‘Congratulations, now I know what a special club it is. You are part of history.’ He was really happy for the fans and the club.”

Arne Slot also believes the title win gives Liverpool a strong advantage going forward. “Before, when I spoke to new players we wanted to sign, I had to tell them how special the fans are here. But after Sunday, I don’t think I need to say it anymore , they’ve seen it for themselves.”

He praised the fans for staying in the stands after the title win, saying: “I’ve seen teams win the league and fans invade the pitch, but ours stayed put. That was unbelievable. Having these fans is a big plus when attracting new players.”
